Distribution:
Canada, Mexico, United States; contiguous lower 48

Bionomics:
The larvae are found more frequently in small permanent bodies of water, particularly in swamp. Very little is known of the adult habits of this species except that the adults are frequently captured in light traps in the southern United States and to a lesser extent in diurnal resting stations. Medical Importance:
Cs. melanura is considered a vector of eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) (Turell et al. 2005:60)
