Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, India, Laos, Macau, Myanmar (Burma), Nepal, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam

Bionomics:
Ground habitats with clear, cool, fresh water, slow moving or nearly stagnant with abundant emergent vegetation, and water temperatures in the 23 - 33°C. range with 28°C. as the ideal. Hill, mountain, high plateau species at elevations up to 1829m. Seepage pools at the base of hills are the favored habitat (Harrison 1980).

Medical Importance:
Primary malaria vector. Found naturally infected with B. malayi and W. bancrofti (Harrison 1980).
